My name is Sirko Galz, born in 1978 in the forest town Eberswalde in the beautiful northeast of Brandenburg. I have a degree as Dipl.-Ing. (FH) for Landscape Use and Nature Conservation at the University for Sustainable Development and moved to Bavaria in 2007 due to my job. Today I live and work in Burglengenfeld, a small town in the north of Regensburg.

The foundation for my textile career has certainly put one of my grandmothers, who had begun training at the State College for weaving Hohenelbe in the Giant Mountains in today's Czech Republic, but never was able to work in their profession because of the relocation at the end of WW2. The interest in textiles and their manufacture has evidently been passed on to me. Since 2007, I have worked deeper and deeper into the matter and operate since about 2009 an own handweaving workshop. Only part-time first and full-time since 2013. Since 2013 I am with my workshop in the Burglengenfeld old town, right next to the church. In summer, the clatter of the looms with the door open is far to listen to the adjacent streets.

Initially, the focus was on the reconstruction of historical textiles. My works can be found in many well-known museums in Europe as exhibits or are worn by reenactment performers with high standards of detail. In recent years, the boom has shifted significantly towards hand-woven slings. With the addition of an old hand jacquard loom to the workshop, I am able to turn the slings into a globally unique product, and at the same time, fill an almost vanished area of hand weaving with new life.

The weaving mill has developed in recent years to a small operation with me as weaver and 1 - 2 employees.
